“Tu nie etwas auch” – “Never also do” – is not only the title of this impressive and stylish book which introduces the artist Peter Säuberli’s life work, but is also his motto, he is following as an artist for more than sixty years.
As Peter explains in his book, Tu nie etwas auch was printed on a commemorative medal he received from his Dutch aunt at a very young age. The medal was issued for the Dutch art scholar, Cornelius Hofstede de Groot (1863-1930), which happens to be a distant relative of Säuberli. “Never also do” was de Groot’s own motto, he communicated to his students of visual art.
Consequently Peter never cared for trends and critiques and vain fashion, but developed his own style. Peter, the gold smith and painter has thus created an impressive oeuvre. Because of his independence and substance, his work continues to attract and remain valid even today. Its then modern expression remains contemporary.
This book offers an intro perspective to this artists work and is succinctly commented by Peter Säuberli himself. His crisp and witty commentaries reveal to the reader how Peter has uniquely approached art in both, creating jewellery and paintings.
