Edo Period, small tsuba from a short tanto, snow-flake pattern impressed; “Legierung, including copper”.
This old, Edo period Tsuba was a lucky find, many years ago, its brown hidden, between other items of metal and wood. The guard is meant for a Tanto, a short dagger and the metal is an oft used amalgamation of copper with up to five percent gold, which, when treated turns to a black colour.
The previous owner of this sword guard called it a "snow flake" Tsuba, due to its design of numerous embossed, little star like imprints.
